NBA Mock Draft – Version 3.0 (Lottery Picks)

Player: Derrick Rose
Position: PG
College: Memphis
Year: Freshman
Age: 19 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′3″/195
V1.0: 1st
V2.0: 1st

Notes: To me this is a no brainer, even though the more I read the more it seems it might not be so easy for the Bulls front office. I am going to keep Rose at the number one position, but he might fall in the next one. However I see it as a huge mistake if the Bulls do not go after a home town hero who can be a floor general and a good defender.

Player: Michael Beasley
Position: PF
College: Kansas State
Age: 19 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′8″/238
V1.0: 2nd
V2.0: 2nd

Notes: Here too, just like with Rose, it seems that the team and the player might not be as sure fitting as it was when I did V2.0 of my mock draft. Again I am going to keep this one the same for this time, but I have a feeling that here to there might be a switch come V4.0. Again, just like with the top pick, I see not taking Beasley as a mistake, since this young man can score on each and every possession and can do so from inside or outside.

Player: O.J. Mayo
Position: SG
College: USC
Age: 20 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′4″/200
V1.0: 6th
V2.0: 6th

Notes: It seems that Mayo has been catching fire with his work outs. It also seems that whatever happened off the field is not going to affect him come June 26th one bit. It is hard to believe that the Timberwolves will draft the guard out of USC, but that is what I am reading more and more. I have to believe that when it is said and done this is going to be a trade bait of sorts. And by that I mean either they are hyping this up so that someone comes and makes a trade for their pick or they are going to draft the young man to then send them elsewhere for some veteran top player.

Player: Jerryd Bayless
Position: PG
College: Arizona
Age: 19 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′3″/205
V1.0: 4th
V2.0: 4th

Notes: Bayless seems to be bound for this spot, one that fits him and the Sonics well. Of the top five picks in this year’s draft I am starting to believe that this one is the closest to being a lock, but with what is going on above them, I wouldn’t be surprised if Seattle moves out of this spot. As I said in the first mock he might not be the pure point guard, but he will do a great job for this team.

Player: Kevin Love
Position: PF
College: UCLA
Age: 19 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′10″/255
V1.0: 9th
V2.0: 5th

Notes: One thing is for sure, Memphis needs a presense inside. The unsure part of this is who they are going to pick. Love is pretty much NBA ready and that is why I have him in this spot, but do not count out Brook Lopez or Anthony Randolph from going here. If I was the Grizzlies I would take the big man from UCLA because they know what they will have for years to come, but if this team is looking for the magic word (potential) Love might just slip from this spot.

Player: Russell Westbrook
Position: PG
College: UCLA
Age: 19 years old
Ht/Wt: 6′3″/195
V1.0: 15th
V2.0: 12th

Notes: The rising star of my mock draft has to be Westbrook, as he went from out of the lottery pick all the way to sixth. I think that the Knicks need a leader, and with the way that team is all messed up it only makes sense that an East coast squad would find a West coast player to lead it!

Player: Eric Gordon
Position: SG
College: Indiana
Age: 19 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′3″/215
V1.0: 7th
V2.0: 7th

Notes: This is another pick that could be a lock if not for the fact that the team is looking to move up at all costs. Gordon is going to be the “fall back” player if the team can not move up with a trade of sorts. I think that Gordon can do a good job for them, since this LA team need a scorer and the young man from Indiana fits that bill well. Look for the Clippers to trade at all costs from this spot, to either move up for a point guard or move down to get a veteran and someone else.

Player: Joe Alexander
Position: SF
College: West Virginia
Age: 21 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′8″/220
V1.0: 13th
V2.0: 13th

Notes: The team needs a small forward, the top two available are Gallinari and Alexander. I put Alexander here because from what people are saying too many people figure that getting Gallinari would be just having another Yi Jianlin. On the other hand, while Alexander is good, he does not seem to be ready for the NBA right away and will Milwaukee want to wait having a top ten pick. This is definitely a pick I could change in the next mock draft.

Player: Brook Lopez
Position: C
College: Stanford
Age: 20
Ht/Wt: 7′0″/255
V1.0: 3rd
V2.0: 3rd

Notes: While Westbrook has risen in every draft, Lopez has slipped for me. Not to say that he couldn’t be a top five pick, because when you get right down to it a good big man everyone wants. If Lopez does slip this far down, which I think he might, Michael Jordan and Larry Brown won’t hesitate to bring him to Charlotte.

Player: Anthony Randolph
Position: PF
College: LSU
Age: 18 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′10″/197
V1.0: 5th
V2.0: 10th

Notes: The Nets are set in the backcourt and need someone in the front court to do something for them. How can you let go of a player like Randolph, with the upside that he has? I think that this would be a great fit for both the team and the player, however I would not be surprised if the Nets go after someone like Gallinari as well. For now I am going to stick with Randolph since I think that he will be one of the players that five years from now people will think “we shouldn’t have passed up on him”.

Player: D.J. Augustin
Position: PG
College: Texas
Age: 20 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′0″/175
V1.0: 11
V2.0: 11th

Notes: Again, another lock pick I think, as the Pacers need a point guard and the top one on their list (Westbrook) will be long gone. The second one, Augustin, will be there for them to bring to Indianapolis. If the Pacers do not go for this point guard it is because they are planning to trade whomever they draft (or someone on their roster) for a veteran guard. I think they will go for D.J. though, and they will be very happy for it.

Player: Kosta Koufos
Position: C
College: Ohio State
Age: 19
Ht/Wt: 7′1″/265
V1.0: 16th
V2.0: 18th

Notes: A player that in my opinion needs time to develop, but in time he can be a force inside and all the way out to the 3 point line. The biggest problem for Koufos is that his defense is not that good, even for the NBA standard. If a team believes that he can improve that part of the game he is definitely a lottery pick.

Player: Danilo Gallinari
Position: SF
College: (International/Italy)
Age: 19 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′9″/210
V1.0:
V2.0:

Notes: The young man from Italy has been slipping on my board, mainly because I think that has he works out a lot of GMs are seeing that maybe there is plenty of US born players just as good as this one from oversea. Portland can use someone that can do it inside and out, and Gallinari is called a point forward, making me feel that the this could be a good fit for both teams.

Player: Donte Greene
Position: SF
College: Syracuse
Age: 20 year old
Ht/Wt: 6′9″/220
V1.0: 14th
V2.0: 14th

Notes: As I have said in the two mock drafts before this one, Don Nelson loves big men that can shoot. Donte Greene fits that to a tee. I think that if he can work a bit on his paint offense he will become a very good pro player.

NBA Mock Draft – Version 2.0 (Lottery Picks)

Here is my Mock Draft 2.0 (Lottery Picks). There are a few changes in the top fourteen picks, but nothing too dramatic. In all, just one player has moved into the lottery picks that was not there in the 1.0, and of course one has left the lottery picks. Tomorrow (or the next day) I will give you the second half of my Mock Draft 2.0. For now hope you all enjoy this:

1) The Chicago Bulls take 19 year old Derrick Rose, Freshman PG (6′3″, 190 lbs.) out of Memphis. Status: unchanged from 1.0 Talent aside, the fit is perfect in my opinion between this player and the Bulls. The fans will love him for his offensive talent and the coaches/front office for his defensive ones as well.

2) The Miami Heat take 19 year old Michael Beasley, Freshman PF (6′9″, 235 lbs.) out of Kansas State. Status: unchanged from 1.0 If this is the consolation prize I think the Heat can be very happy with it. They will have a player that has the skills to become the Rookie of the Year and much more.

3) The Minnesota Timberwolves take 20 year old Brook Lopez, Sophomore C (7′0″, 260 lbs.) out of Stanford. Status: unchanged from 1.0 The team needs a big man and Lopez fits the need, sometimes overthinking a pick can ruin it, this one is plain and simple.

4) The Seattle Supersonics take 19 year old Jerry Bayless, Freshman PG/SG (combo) (6′3″, 199 lbs.) out of Arizona. Status: unchanged from 1.0 He might not be a pure PG, but he will do fine for the Sonics.

5) The Memphis Grizzlies take 19 year old Kevin Love, Freshman PF/C (6′9″, 255 lbs.) out of UCLA. Status: From 9th in Version 1.0 to 5th Memphis needs a guy to play tough in the front court and Love is the most NBA ready player of this draft, what you see is what you get from him, and I think you see plenty from Love.

6) The New York Knicks take 20 year old O.J. Mayo, Freshman PG/SG (combo) (6′5″, 195 lbs.) out of USC. Status: unchanged from 1.0 If you need the hype and want the cameras all over a player then this is the player you pick to send to NYC. And by the way, Majo is a good player too!

7) The Los Angeles Clippers take 19 year old Eric Gordon, Freshman SG (6′3″, 215 lbs.) out of Indiana Status: unchanged from 1.0 I am not sure if this is the right pick here, but the Clippers need plenty of help in the back court and Gordon is a good choice.

8) The Milwaukee Bucks take 19 year old Danilo Gallinari, SF (6′9″, 209 lbs.) out of Italy Status: unchanged from 1.0 The young man from Italy is the right fit for this team, he will be a great addition because of his abilities to play all over the court.

9) The Charlotte Bobcats take 19 year old DeAndre Jordan, Freshman C (7′0″, 260 lbs.) out of Texas A&M Status: unchanged from 1.0 Status: From 10th in 1.0 to 9th The `Cats have talent all over except for in the middle, could Jordan be the right man for this team? I could say so.

10) The New Jersey Nets take 18 year old Anthony Randolph, Freshman SF/PF (6′11″, 220 lbs.) out of LSU Status: From 5th in 1.0 to 10th Not sure if this will be a match made in heaven, but the Nets need a big man and Randolph is not half bad.

11) The Indiana Pacers take 20 year old D.J. Augustin, Sophomore PG (5′11″, 175 lbs.) out of Texas Status: unchanged from 1.0 I think that Indiana might be the true winner of this lottery if they can get this young man. They will fill their need with the best player at that position and get a true leader as well.

12) The Sacramento Kings take 19 year old Russell Westbrook, PG/SG (combo) (6′3″, 187 lbs.) out of UCLA Status: From 15th in 1.0 to 12th The Kings need someone to run the team, Westbrook could fit that need pretty well.

13) The Portland Trail Blazers take 21 year old Joe Alexander, Junior SF (6′8″, 230 lbs.) out of West Virginia Status: unchanged from 1.0 I can use the theory of “best man available” here, as the team is in need of a PG more than a SF, but will go with the best player that is on the board (unless a trade can be made).

14) The Golden State Warriors take 19 year old Donte Greene, Freshman SF (6′9″, 220 lbs.) out of Syracuse Status: unchanged from 1.0 Don Nelson loves big men that has a shot and not just a banger underneath. I think that this young man fits the bill for the team mentality.

NBA Mock Draft – Version 1.0 (Seconda Parte)

A bit late, but here is the second half of my first mock draft. I believe that the 2.0 of the mock draft will be out this coming Monday. I think that there will be plenty of moving up/down for a couple of players, but I do not want to get into that, and let you enjoy the 1.0 version.

15) Phoenix Suns take Russell Westbrook Sophomore PG/SG (6′3″, 187 lbs.) from UCLA. The reason why Westbrook fell in my opinion is not because he doesn’t have talent, he does have plenty, but because he is a more of a non-shooting point, and in the NBA points are always loved!

16) Philadelphia 76′ers take Kosta Koufos Freshman C (7′1″, 245 lbs.) from Ohio State. The defense needs work for this young man, but he can play inside and out on offense and can come in with the team and contribute from day one.

17) Toronto Raptors take Marresse Speights Sophomore PF/C (6′10, 245 lbs.) from Florida. On a team that can use a big man to help them inside on both sides of the ball I think Speights will do great. I truly believe that Speights is going to work hard and be the a power on a team that needs one.

18) Washington Wizards take JaVale McGee Sophomore C (7′0″, 237 lbs.) from Nevada. I think this pick is going to back fire for the Wizards, because I see McGee as a project on a team that needs help now. Maybe Washington sees a lot that I do not, but for me this is not going to help a team that just doesn’t seem to end up on the right side of the equation come playoffs time.

19) Cleveland Cavaliers take Robin Lopez Sophomore C (7′0″, 255 lbs.) from Stanford. We know one thing, LeBron James is not in need of another guard. The leader of the Cavs need a big man who can help him, and that is what Lopez can do from day one. He does not need to be a finesse player for Cleveland, but he needs to do the dirty work for the team, and I think that he will.

20) Denver Nuggets take Ty Lawson Sophomore PG (5′11″, 175 lbs.) from North Carolina. The speed is the reason why Lawson will go here. He is going to make the squad led by Melo quicker and get them easy free baskets as he can be a one man fast break. He might not be a starter from day one, but he is sure going to change the game when he does come in.

21) New Jersey Nets take Bill Walker Freshman SG/SF (6′6″, 225 lbs.) from Kansas State. If he can improve the shot from behind the arc he is going to become a good player. He needs to get his shot off the dribble as accurate as when he is set, his ball handling skills are ok, but need some more work on. Walked has had some turnover issues in the past, but with some work on that he should become a good pick for the Nets.

22) Orlando Magic take Chris Douglas Roberts Junior SG (6′7″, 200 lbs.) from Memphis. This is going to be the piece that is going to make the Magic very good. With the way this young man can hit it from the outside he will do just fine in opening up the game for Dwight Howard down low.

23) Utah Jazz take Chase Budinger Sophomore SG/SF (6′7″, 190 lbs.) from Arizona. I know that Budinger would be a steal so low, but with some many good talented players some are going to fall in this draft. I think that he will be another one that drops more than people expected.

24) Seattle Supersonics take Roy Hibbert Senior C (7′2″, 272 lbs.) from Georgetown. The big man from G’Town should have come out last year, he would have been a lottery pick. Now, he is going to get lucky and go play with one of the best young players in the league. He should help out with his rebounding as long as he keeps his intesity going on a daily basis.

25) Houston Rockets take Brandon Rush Junior SG/SF (6′7″, 211 lbs.) from Kansas. This is going to be a great pick for the Rockets, a great worker, will find a way to get open and hit his shots. This is going to help out the big two of the team. He might not be your “lights out” starter, but he is going to be a player that comes in and hits his shots.

26) San Antonio Spurs take Courtney Lee Senior SG (6′5″, 200 lbs.) from Western Kentucky. He is going to make it into the first round (and maybe will move up even higher than this slot) because of his fluid motions and quick first step that is essential for a shooter. And shooting he can, and do it well!

27) New Orleans Hornets take Jason Thompson Senior C (6′11″, 250 lbs.) from Rider. A great addition that will help Chris Paul get even more assists as he will be a force inside for any team in this draft. He might not be as ready as other big men in the game, but he will make his presence felt as he works hard on and off the field to get better.

28) Memphis Grizzlies take Wayne Ellington Sophomore SG (6′4″, lbs.) from North Carolina. This is the perfect place for Ellington, coming off the bench and hitting the three’s when needed. I think that without the pressure of being a starter and having to hit the shot when he comes in will be a pleasent change than being one of the ones that has to carry the team. I think that will be the way you see this young man being utilized.

29) Detroit Pistons take DeVon Hardin Senior C (6′11″, 250 lbs.) from California. The big man is going to fill in a spot that will begin to open up as the Pistons’ age begins to show. It will be interesting how the offseason goes for this team as the new head coach comes in for Detroit.

30) Boston Celtics take JJ Hickson Freshman PF (6′9, 242 lbs.) from N.C. State. He has the talent but is raw. Might be a reach to see him in the first round, but I think that he will squeeze in if the teams do not begin to go look overseas before the beginning of round two. If they do Hickson could fall into the 40’s.

The Underclassmen; where will they go?

(Un post fatto per un mio amico, credo di aver coperto tutti gli underclassmen)…

Once again updating the underclassmen going in the National Basketball Association draft I tried to make sure I had who has an agent as of right now and who does not. I also put a small comment and where I think they will land (broad range). There is a ton of players as you can see right now, and this list does not include the seniors that have a shot at the NBA, nor the international players, that right now amount to about a dozen players. I would not be surprised if close to half of the players that are without an agent go back to college for one more year. I also would not be surprised if a lot of them stay in. What I can say is this, if any of the players that do not have an agent right now have doubts, they should just go right back to school. This is a very talented draft and to lose out on improving and going into a weaker draft next year would be very foolish.

Signing with agents:

  • D.J. Augustin (Texas). Lottery pick without a doubt, might break the top ten. He is the second best point guard in this draft I believe.
  • Jerryd Bayless (Arizona). He has not been talked about as much as other frosh in this draft, but he will be called before the tenth pick in the draft.
  • Michael Beasley (Kansas State). If not number one in the draft, he will be number two.
  • Derrick Caracter (Louisville). I will be surprised if his name is called in the draft and if he makes a team. He does not have the skills nor the mindset to play at the next level.
  • Chris Douglas-Roberts (Memphis). Still not sure if he is a wonderful player or a one wonder type of player. He should be picked just in the end of the first round.
  • C.J. Giles (Oregon State). His talents are great, his character not so good. I think that he will get some team to take him in the late second round, but wouldn’t be surprised if he goes undrafted.
  • Eric Gordon (Indiana). He has the talent to play in the NBA. I am just not sure if the drop off in the last part of the season will hurt his stock. I still see him as a lottery pick
  • Davon Jefferson (USC). If he breaks the first round I would be surprised.
  • Brook Lopez (Stanford). Of the two twins he should be the one going in the NBA this year since he will definitely be a Top 10 pick (and the best big man of the draft).
  • Robin Lopez (Stanford). Should be not coming out of college this year, but you can not teach height and so I am sure a team will take him in the first round.
  • O.J. Mayo (USC). Top ten for sure, maybe top five.
  • JaVale McGee (Nevada). He could be the surprise of the draft in five years, being the player that all passed and shouldn’t have. I see him going in the high teens/low 20’s, but could be a lottery pick if a team wants height.
  • Anthony Randolph (LSU). Another player that should be called before double digits and could break into the Top 5 if a team is looking for a big and Brook Lopez is gone.
  • Derrick Rose (Memphis). Either number one or number two in the draft. If he goes lower than that he is a steal!
  • Brandon Rush (Kansas). He has the tools, the one draw back on this young man is if he has the will. That has made him slide down, I see him going just past the lottery picks.
  • Not signing with agents yet:

  • A.J. Abrams (Texas). I don’t see him getting drafted, and if he does hear his name it will be very late in the second round.
  • Joe Alexander (WVU). I like Alexander, I would like him better in a year (after more work in college). However if he does stay in the draft I see him going in the low to mid 20’s.
  • Antonio Anderson (Memphis). He should not be here, he will not hear his name getting called if he makes the mistake of staying the draft.
  • Ryan Anderson (Cal). One of the many tweeners that do so good in college and struggle at the next level. He will be drafted late in the first round or at the beginning of the second.
  • Darrell Arthur (Kansas). He is going to be one of those players that in the mid teens will still be around and be a steal for the team that takes him.
  • Chase Budinger (Arizona). Will need to toughen up at the next level, but that will not ruin his lottery pick status.
  • DeMarre Carroll (Missouri). Another one of those players that did good in college and in the NBA, a bit because of the size and a bit because of the much better competition, will not make it. I see him as an undrafted player if he stays in.
  • Josh Carter (Texas A&M). I am not sure about this young man, he does have skills, but maybe not enough for the NBA. I see him late in the second round, but, like others, would not be surprised to see him go undrafted.
  • Mario Chalmers (Kansas). The shine of the shot that gave Kansas the possibility to win the national title has worn off, and by the time the draft comes around he will be a second rounder that will need to hustle hard to make it in the NBA.
  • Lee Cummard (BYU). Has a good shot, plays his position well, yada yada yada, like a lot of others, if he stays in the draft he will not be drafted.
  • Robert Dozier (Memphis). A player that could do well, needs to work on certain skills at the next level. Late second rounder.
  • Wayne Ellington (UNC). A mid second rounder and could drop if he has a bad workout session, college should be his only option.
  • Jamont Gordon (Miss. St.). Combo player that has the built for the NBA, but has not convinced all. I think a late first rounder, that could slip into the second if no one is interested late.
  • Danny Green (UNC). Another good player that is borderline second and not being drafted, being good this year just isn’t good enough.
  • Donte Greene (Syracuse). He has the potential to be a lottery pick, the play in the second half of the season might make him slide to low 20’s.
  • Richard Hendrix (Alabama). One of those players that will benefit the most from the pre draft camp. With a good showing he could be a mid 20’s pick, with a bad one he goes back to college.
  • J.J. Hickson (N.C. State). He should not be in the draft cause he is not ready. He will be taken by a team as a project, probably in the second half of the first round.
  • Shawn James (Duquesne). Good player, with some up side, but much down. I do not see him being drafted.
  • DeAndre Jordan (Texas A&M). A dow joners (to steal a Dickie V saying), up and down all season, but again not being able to teach size will make him a lottery pick.
  • Kosta Koufos (Ohio State). A seven footer with good offensive skills and so-so defensive ones. He might be a lottery pick because you can’t teach size.
  • Ty Lawson (UNC). If healthy he is a mid to high 20’s pick. If not, he should be back in school and try next year.
  • Kevin Love (UCLA). He is going to be a lottery pick, and then he is going to have to work hard to show that he was worth that type of pick.
  • Leo Lyons (Missouri). Thanks to a better second half of the season he might sneak in the second round, but he should be sneaking back into college in my opinion.
  • Jemel McNeal (Marquette). He will go late in the second round, but another year in college would help him.
  • Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (UCLA). He could be a great player, but still needs to build on many things. Right now he is an early second rounder at best.
  • Jeremy Pargo (Gonzaga). Yet another player that has a lot riding on the pre draft camp. With a good one he could get into the first round, with a decent one he would stay in the second and in my opinion, with a so-so one he will go back to college, which would be the best bet for him.
  • Trent Plaisted (BYU). He has the build for the NBA, the question is does he have the skills. I think that he will make it in the first round on the “potential” and the fact you can’t teach height.
  • Josh Shipp (UCLA). A tweener that might just be smart to go back to college for one more year. He needs to show that his falling off at the end of the season was an anomily and not a problem.
  • Marreese Speights (Florida). A good player that will go probably in the last picks of the lottery pick or just after that.
  • Ronald Steele (Alabama). Another player that we could say stayed a year too many in college. Because of that he should go back one more to improve, cause if he stays in this draft he will not hear his name called.
  • Robert Vaden (UAB). A good shooter in a draft full of them, he should go back to school if he wants to get a shot at the guaranteed contracts next year. If he stays in this one, look for him mid to late second round.
  • Bill Walker (Kansas State). If a team goes on what he can do if healthy he will go in the last part of the first round, if teams wonder if he will be back from his injuries he will go in the last part of the second round.
  • Russell Westbrook (UCLA). A lottery pick, if not, he is a steal for whomever takes him.
  • And there you have it, the underclassmen that right now are in the mix (with or without an agent) to go and impress scouts and teams. Lots of them, as I said prior to this, should return to school. Some will have great careers, and some I am shock to even see on this list because they have no business on it. As more and more moves are made I will update it all.

    Juniors & NBA Draft

    Joe Alexander, 6-8, 230, SF, W.Virginia – Senza Agent
Richard Hendrix, 6-8, 260, PF, Alabama – Senza Agent
    Lester Hudson, 6-3, 190, PG, UT-Martin – Senza Agent
Shawn James, 6-10, 225, PF, Duquesne – Senza Agent
Jeremy Pargo, 6′2″, 220, PG, Gonzaga – Senza Agent
    Trent Plaisted 6-10 245 PF/C BYU – Senza Agent
Ronald Steele, 6-2, 185, PG, Alabama – Senza Agent

    Sophomores & NBA Draft

    Ryan Anderson, 6-10, 235, SF/PF, Cal – Senza Agent
Chase Budinger, 6-7, 215, SG, Arizona – Senza Agent
Derrick Caracter, 6-8, 260, PF, Louisville – Con Agent
Earl Clark, 6-8, 220, SF, Louisville – Senza Agent
    Brook Lopez, 7-0, 260, C, Stanford – Con Agent
    Robin Lopez, 7-0, 255, C, Stanford – Con Agent
    JaVale McGee, 7-0, 237, C, Nevada – Con Agent
Marreese Speights, 6-10, 250, PF, Florida – Senza Agent
